A new pest control method developed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and Georgia State University (GSU) is designed to keep cats from coming into your home.
The new pest deterrent system is designed with a goal of preventing cat-infested homes from being cleared for development and can be applied to both the ground and buildings.
“Our goal is to make it so cats don’t live in our homes and that’s where we’re going with this new deterrent system,” NPWS chief officer Rob Dolan said.
The technology is also designed to prevent cats from getting inside your home and can only be applied in the open, and only when a fence or other barrier is in place.
“There is no reason for cats to live in houses, so we want to ensure that there are no homes where cats are allowed to live,” Mr Dolan told news.com, “We want to make sure that our communities are not destroyed.”
In the study, the NPWS and GSU team studied how to effectively remove cats from areas where they could be a problem, and what other pest control measures can be put in place to keep your home clean.
“We found that when we use a combination of the three methods, it’s pretty effective,” Mr Mckenzie said.
“It’s a lot easier to get rid of a cat that’s been in your house than it is to get a cat out of a house and that we found is the main reason for the effectiveness of the deterrent.”
Mr Dolan explained that the deterrent has the ability to work on cats in two different ways.
“The first method is when we spray it with a chemical called hydroxyapatite or the water repellent,” he said.
This is the first of several chemical options the NPW is exploring.
The NPWS says that a single spray of hydroxyacite will only kill one cat, but can also kill cats on the ground if they are caught in the process of escaping.
“The other option is to apply the deterrent with a combination chemical called metronidazole or the mineral repellant,” Mr. Dolan added.
“If you apply the metronide or the metinidazoles and then spray it down the fence, it will not only kill cats but it will also get into the ground, so it will kill other cats and you will be able to get them out of the area.”
That’s a very different way to get the cat out.
“Mr Mckaney said the technology was also designed so that a small amount of the chemicals used to kill cats could be applied at a time.”
One of the key aspects of this system is that we are looking at all the chemicals, how many are in them, how fast they are being absorbed and the ability of the system to absorb them, which will help with the effectiveness and reduce the need for use of other chemical solutions,” he added.
It is also hoped that this deterrent will help reduce the numbers of cats in the wild and increase the number of people in the area who are able to live with them.”
These deterrents are the only thing we have that we know works and works well in cats, and it is the only system that works,” Mr Niederhauser said.
